Meet the Doctors
Alamo Heights Oral Surgery is home to a team of experienced oral surgeons: Dr. John Hultquist, DMD, MD, Dr. Drew Havard, DMD, Dr. Brendan Farrell, DDS, and Dr. Daron Praetzel, DMD, FAACS. The practice was founded in March 2007 by Dr. Christopher Medley, DDS, MD, a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who retired from active practice in January 2024. Dr. Farrell and Dr. Praetzel, who trained under Dr. Medley, purchased the practice to carry on his tradition of care in the Alamo Heights community. Dr. Hultquist served 22 years in the Air Force, where he chaired the Oral Surgery Department at Wilford Hall Medical Center, and later led the oral and maxillofacial surgery department at the Audie Murphy Memorial Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Havard, a board certified oral surgeon from Gulfport, Mississippi, earned his dental degree at the University of Mississippi and completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Baylor in Dallas, and he focuses on tooth extractions, including impacted wisdom teeth, and dental implant placement. Dr. Farrell completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and served on a head and neck trauma team during a deployment to Joint Base Balad in Iraq, where he was also the Theater Consultant for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Praetzel earned his dental degree at the University of Pittsburgh, completed his residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, served thirteen years on active duty as an Air Force surgeon, and currently serves as President of the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery.
