I was looking for a new dentist that is closer to where I live as my original dentist (of 34 years) is almost an hour away. I called to the office to schedule my cleaning which they would only schedule a specific day & time as a new patient, which I understood. I scheduled for the cleaning but expressed my concerns over a cavity. Due to my concern & the length of time between then & my cleaning appointment (scheduled for 12/31) they decided to book an exam & filling appointment for 11/26. I showed up for my appointment at 3:50 to fill out the paperwork for my 4:00 appointment. I was not taken back till 4:20 to begin my exam & to fill in the cavity. The office wanted to obtain X-rays, once that was completed the hygienist came in & began to examine my gum lines and assigning a number (3-7) to each tooth. She indicated that most of the teeth were fine but there was one specific area that rated higher (7) than other areas & had recommended to see a specialists to have a deeper cleaning done than their office could provide but would let the full doctor review before handling anything else further The doctor came in & reviewed my X-rays & did their own exam & basically told me that I had 16 cavities, I need to have a root canal on my UL back tooth done as there was a cavity that could not be filled due to prior work that was done on that tooth. The doctor brought up the gum line reading of the 7 and had stated that normally when only one section of your mouth has a high rating like that, that it indicates there is a crack in your tooth & was recommending I have my RS 2 upper back teeth pulled & get an implant done. I had asked the doctor how did she know there was a crack, asked if it could be seen in the x-rays & she stated no that it was just her professional opinion due to the high gum line reading even though I have no pain or issues with those teeth. I advised that I wasn't wanting to make a decision on their recommendations & would follow up but wanted to still complete the filling I had booked the appointment for. At this time they stated that it was too late in the evening to complete the filing despite the fact that I booked this appointment specifically for this filling & within the 2 hours I was there all they did was do X-Rays and exams. I then proceeded to the check out desk to get a copy of the estimated bill of all the recommended work so that I could review it. The 2 receptionists at the front desk stated that it was odd that the hygienists treatment plan that was just suggesting a specialists for the deeper clean was missing from my notes in the chart & only the doctors notes (the more invasive treatment of removal of 2 teeth and an implant) was shown. The receptionists basically stated to me that they weren't saying that the doctors notes were wrong but they recommended they have their new doctor who was starting in 2 days to review everything & would give me a call. Well he never called. I scheduled a cleaning with my normal dentist, at this time I signed over a release of my x-rays so my normal dentist could review them. I scheduled to come back to them to have my filing done. I get to my appointment and found out that American Dental never released my x-rays to them despite signing over a release form that was sent to them, so I had to get another set of x-rays done. After reviewing my x-rays there my dentist had stated I only had the 1 cavity, not 16 cavities, no root canal needing to be done, no extraction of teeth or an implant would have been needed. American Dental was giving me an estimate of $10,000 for all work that they were recommending. I am thankful I went back to my original dentist who disagreed with all their recommendations. I would not recommend this place. I believe the office purposely did not release my x-rays to my original provider from either pure pettiness as they knew I would not be returning & would not be giving them my business or they knew their recommendations were on false pretenses & my x-rays would prove that the work they were recommending was fraudulent.

I'm going to preface this review by saying that when I started going here, I never had any tooth pain. My former dentist retired so we started coming here. I was hoping I would just do the normal cleanings every 6 months like I had done everywhere else. Unfortunately that was not the case. I was told I I had urgent needs. First one was, I needed a crown. Never had anything done like this before. The most I've had done was cavity fills, but I always trust the doctor so I said of course, if that what I need, let do it. After the crown replacement, I had constant pain in that tooth. The doctor said, oh maybe your tooth was cracked, and maybe it will get better over time as the material they used to attach the crown will fill in the crack. It did not. Ok I thought, this is a fluke. They can't know everything when they start to do these things. The next urgent thing, cavities that I got replaced when I was a teenager where decaying and I needed to get those drilled out and filled again. Ok Doc you are the professional, lets do it. I didn't have pain in that area, but the x-rays are the x-rays. After the procedure was done she said she had to go really deep and there might be some sensitivity. Well, now I can't even eat a peanut or a potato chip on that side of my mouth anymore without pain. The doctor's advice, if it's painful we need to do a root canal. I literally had an appointment in Feb to do this same thing to cavities on the other side of my mouth. I'm traumatized, I told my wife please cancel my appointments and lets find a new dentist. I visited the new dentist and while he can't comment on the state of my teeth before the fillings and crown, he looked at the other fillings that the doctor at American Dental told me needed to be urgently filled and and said they look fine. He would not recommend drilling them out and refilling. So maybe this is all my fault. Maybe I should have been more of an advocate for myself and questioned the dentist here, but I usually have a high level of trust towards anyone in the medical field. I was not going to write a review, but I just feel that I wanted to warn anyone who visits this office. If you are told you need extensive dental work, just get a second opinion.

Went to see this dentist in an emergency situation on Monday 12-22-25 after being in severe pain all weekend and going to the ER with no relief. I have heard horror stories about American Dental but thought how bad can it be. I called first thing in the morning and was given an appointment. Went into be seen and was given a whole mouth Xray. Without even poking around in my mouth the dentist came in and said it was a bad tooth, you can either do an extraction or root canal. I said whatever will get me relief today. So they made an appointment for an extraction at the Hamburg office immediately. So i went up to Hamburg from there they were trying to sell me implants which i did not want, then the doctor only gave me one shot of Novocain. I told him i was not numb but he started pulling anyway. i have never been lifted off a chair or screamed during an extraction. Only come to find out when i went back to my regular dentist who was on vacation for the holiday, the tooth they pulled there was nothing wrong with it and it was the tooth behind it, so i continued to suffer an additional 2 weeks due to American Dental's lack of knowledge and treatment. I tried to call American Dental back and tell them they pulled the wrong tooth and they were arguing with me on the phone. I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!! !

The staff were nice, but they claim that you have problems with your teeth when there aren’t any. They are SCAMMING people. My parents and I were looking for a new dentist and went here. All three of us supposedly had issues with our teeth, issues that the previous dentist never mentioned before. They claimed my dad had some kind of infection in his tooth and also told him that he needs to get his wisdom teeth removed. They said my mom needed to get a cleaning every three months instead of six because her teeth are apparently more prone to cavities (something that was never said to her before). With me they claimed I had two or three cavities and wanted me to come back to get them filled. I found it unusual since I brush my teeth regularly and never had issues with cavities. Something didn’t feel right, so we decided to get a second opinion. The new dentist proved that none of these issues were even there. I had no cavities at all, my dad didn’t have any kind of infection. He was advised not to get his wisdom teeth removed because they weren’t causing any problems and it would be a completely unnecessary procedure. American Dental Solutions lied about these issues. They were going to perform unnecessary procedures to fix a problem that wasn’t there.

The receptionists are always pleasant. I love Heather the hygienist! I really like that I have her every six months to do my cleanings. I am very happy with Dr. Runkle's care, expertise & her very nice personality. This is the best care I've ever had at a dental practice!
