Every time I'm at Aspen Dental Mankato, it's a great experience. Check-in is usually quick, the staff is always friendly, and everything is explained clearly before anything is done. The dentist and hygienist are gentle and make me feel comfortable the whole time, always! I really appreciate how organized and efficient they are. Highly recommend!

Avoid this practice at all costs. It is, without exaggeration, the most unethical, disorganized, and dangerously incompetent dental office I have ever encountered.
1. Lack of transparency bordering on fraud
During the initial root-canal consultation, I was quoted an exorbitant fee and explicitly told “this is what it costs anywhere in town.” Only after paying elsewhere did I discover their “traveling endodontist” is out-of-network despite the office itself being in-network — a critical detail they deliberately withheld. This is not a mistake; it is a calculated bait-and-switch.
2. Predatory payment policies
Patients are required to pay 60% of the estimated treatment cost upfront simply to secure an appointment — an astonishing policy for a general dental practice. After making this deposit of several hundred dollars, I was rescheduled with less than 48 hours notice, delaying care by an entire month and leaving a compromised tooth at risk of fracture.
3. Routine, unexplained price escalation
- Original quote for cleaning + crown prep + associated work: $593
- At the cleaning appointment: suddenly informed I needed a “permanent filling” (despite written documentation from my endodontist stating the existing filling was already permanent) pushing the total past $950 after insurance.
- At the temporary-crown appointment: quoted yet another new balance (~$680 after prior payments) with no explanation for the discrepancy.
- Same-day final payment: mysteriously only $145.59 remaining.
No itemized breakdown was ever voluntarily provided; every price change was presented as “this is what it costs” with zero accountability.
4. Clinical negligence and patient endangerment
I reported returning swelling and signs of reinfection and explicitly requested antibiotics and a consultation with the dentist. More than five weeks later I have still received no callback — an unacceptable lapse that could have led to sepsis in a patient with an active root-canal site.
5. Chronic scheduling incompetence
Two separate appointments (one for crown prep, one for permanent crown placement) were canceled or pushed back at the last minute. The permanent crown appointment was delayed an additional 20 days because “only one dentist is available over the holidays” — a staffing shortage that should never be offloaded onto patients with open temporary restorations.
6. Rough and unprofessional chairside manner
During temporary crown placement, the assistant used excessive, painful force with the suction and metal instruments. When I instinctively pulled away, I was scolded rather than reassured or asked about discomfort level — basic courtesy apparently not part of their training.
This is not an isolated bad day; it is a practice built on opaque pricing, coercive prepayment demands, disregard for infection control timelines, and a scheduling system that prioritizes revenue over patient health. Every interaction revealed another layer of corner-cutting and indifference.
Go literally anywhere else. Your teeth — and your wallet — will thank you.

I had a great experience at Aspen Dental in Mankato with dental hygienist Megan. She was professional, personable, and gentle throughout the visit. She took her time and did an excellent job. I look forward to continuing to schedule with her whenever possible and recommend her to anyone looking for a new, or consistent hygienist to see in Mankato!

They truly amazing people who work there.. I came in with my two kids because I have no family or any type of support the front desk receptionist complimented my kids for being good and they didn’t have a problem with them in the lobby. I was scared as a mom cause i didn’t want my kids to disturb no one but the whole staff understood. They also took all my X-rays and told me the steps to take to keep a healthy mouth and can’t wait to get my teeth done and to keep it healthy.Finance, nurse , xray tech, dentist, and receptionist are stellar. I appreciate them for being welcoming.

Felt very much like a car salesman experience, trying to up sell constantly. They wanted to charge 3k for a root planing and scaling when MSU in town offers the same for far less. Save your money and call around. The reviews don't lie. Only thing I was happy with was the $29 exam and xray and I will be taking my business elsewhere.
Edit: It has been two days since my poor experience and I have since noticed a small cut in the back right of my mouth after my appointment thinking nothing of it. It has since swollen up a bit. Never had this happen before.
