About Commonwealth Periodontics & Implant Center
Commonwealth Periodontics & Implant Center is a periodontal and dental implant practice with offices in London, Kentucky and Somerset, Kentucky. The London office is located at 1545 South Main Street and is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM. The practice was founded in July 1991 by Dr. Susan Ballou Gibson as a surgical practice limited to periodontal surgery and dental implants, and its care is provided by a team of periodontists. For patients with missing teeth, the practice offers single tooth implants, multiple teeth replacement, and full arch replacement, including All-on-4 and All-on-X dental implants for those struggling with unstable dentures or significant tooth loss.
Beyond implants, the London office provides bone and sinus grafts, gum and tissue grafts, gingival contouring (gum reshaping), scaling and root planing, periodontal maintenance, laser periodontal therapy, and LANAP laser treatment (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure). Diagnostic tools include digital X-rays and cone beam CT scanning, which produces three dimensional images of the teeth and jaw. Patients who are anxious about treatment can ask about nitrous oxide, oral sedation, or intravenous sedation. The practice describes its approach as personalized, with individual treatment plans and an emphasis on patient education and healing as part of overall health.
Meet the Doctors
The practice's clinical team includes three periodontists. Dr. Susan Ballou Gibson, DMD, MSD, founded the practice in 1991. She earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1988, completed a general practice residency at the Louisville VA Medical Center, and completed her periodontal surgical residency at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, where she received a Master of Dental Science with a minor in pathology. Dr. William Carroll, DMD, MS, a native of Harlan, Kentucky, earned his bachelor's degree from Georgetown College and his dental degree and periodontal specialty training from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, completing his specialty training in 2002. He also lectures to dentists and hygienists on techniques including full arch solutions. Dr. Lucy Belcher, DMD, MS, is a Vanderbilt University graduate who earned her DMD from the University of Louisville and completed her periodontology specialty training at the University of Kentucky. She is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology and is originally from Elkhorn City in Eastern Kentucky.
