Just recently moved to Novato, and received two referrals from friends to check into "Dentistry by Design" for my Dental health. The moment I walked in, I was struck by the interior design being so warm, friendly, and open. Susie and Kathy at the front desk introduced me to Leslie, and off we went for a Through exam of all my teeth using high technology imaging sensors, with 360 degree high resolution photography of the teeth and gums. X-rays followed, and then the cleaning, that offered several flavor choices for polishing. I learned a lot of do's and don'ts from Both Lauren and Kathy. Then off we went to meet with my Dentist Dr. Anan, who received all the data in real time such that he scoped out my dental plan, and was prepared in describing the plan moving forward. I was extremely pleased with both the technology part and the knowledgable staff.

I don’t know how a dental experience could be more polished. From the moment you enter and are greeted to time you leave, every single person is happy and personable. My entire family and everyone I know who goes here (I recommend them all the time) says the same thing. The offices and rooms are all very nice. They even play great music!
Most importantly though, Dr Raj Anand is simply and undeniably the best. Super nice, extremely efficient, incredibly proficient at his craft and a great communicator. I just had a filling fall out and he walked the the entire process as he worked. Amazing! Highly recommended!

I’m a brand-new patient at Dentistry by Design in Novato, and I already feel so lucky to have found this office. I’ve had a lot of dental issues over my life and have seen close to 30 different dentists — so I know the difference between okay care and exceptional care.
From my first step inside, I felt comfortable and cared for. The hygienist was wonderful — friendly, funny, and really knowledgeable. She made a normally stressful appointment feel almost easy. I had a full set of X-rays and scans done, and the assistant doing those explained everything clearly and was so gentle throughout the process.
Then I met the dentist, and he completely earned my trust in the first few minutes. He listened to my concerns, ran some tests I’d never even heard of, and truly took the time to explain what was going on and what my options were — without talking down to me or rushing through anything. His manner is calm, professional, and genuinely kind.
After one visit, I can already tell I’m in excellent hands here. I feel heard, respected, and confident moving forward with my care — something I haven’t felt in a long time. I’m already recommending Dentistry by Design to everyone I know.

I recently moved to Novato and was nervous about finding a new dental office after some bad experiences in my 20s, and I was fearful I might need to trek back to my dentist in Southern CA. Thankfully, I was relieved when I found this office — they calmed my nerves right away. The staff is welcoming, kind, and efficient, making the visit feel easy and comfortable in their gorgeous office. My hygienist, Lauren, was thorough and gentle, while Dr. Alex took the time to explain my dental needs in detail with a calming, professional approach. Truly the best dentist and office — if I could give more than five stars, I would!

I have been working with this office for many years. They are knowledgeable, kind, and respectful. Dr. Alex Schmotter will always greet you with a smile and kindness. His professionalism and knowledge far exceeds most in the dental field. You can choose this company without any doubt knowing you will be taken care off.

He gained additional dental and surgical training on mission trips and founded a nonprofit, Reciprocating Smiles International. The two dentists met during a continuing education course and later became colleagues in the practice, sharing similar philosophies of care.
