Our Consult went great. With my son being young and it not being a pediatrician surgery center specifically I was so worried. But from the phone call I received today of a cancellation and moved his appt up three weeks because they documented when I called about the pain he was in, to walking in the door and speaking to awesome ladies up front, all the way through x rays and to the dentist. My son was comfortable and you never would have thought that they didn’t only treat children there 24/7! My oldest has wisdom teeth coming in and when I told her about our experience today, she is now patiently waiting for me to make her an appointment!

I had heard many positive things about Dr. Shirley, so I was very disappointed by my experience. I paid $160 out of pocket for the visit and left feeling that my concerns were not adequately addressed.
Dr. Shirley and his staff were polite and kind; however, the evaluation itself was not helpful. I brought MRI imaging showing disc displacement and degenerative changes of the TMJ, and I explained how significantly this affects my ability to eat, speak for extended periods, and function day to day. Despite this, the only recommendations offered were over-the-counter supplements and medications.
I explained that I am already following these recommendations and have completed multiple rounds of physical therapy without sufficient relief. The one new supplement suggested (glucosamine) is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and I am currently breastfeeding.
I was told that additional options could not be meaningfully pursued until my Invisalign treatment is completed in approximately two years, at which point a custom night guard could be considered. Injections were mentioned but dismissed as “only a band-aid” without a clear discussion of risks, benefits, or whether they might be appropriate given my imaging findings.
Given the degree of structural abnormalities on the MRI and the impact this condition has on my quality of life and mental health, I found the lack of discussion of evidence-based options or a clear treatment plan to be dismissive and discouraging. I left without a sense of next steps or meaningful guidance.
This may be an appropriate practice for patients with mild or early TMJ symptoms, but for those with imaging-confirmed joint pathology seeking a thoughtful discussion of options, this was not a good fit.

I met with Dr. Shirley today and he made me feel so much better about my upcoming procedure. I have high anxiety surrounding dental care in general so the thought of an extraction of a tooth with complex roots had me worked up. He went over the procedure with me and they got me scheduled. Everyone in the office was fantastic and efficient. 10/10 experience!

I felt very at ease through the whole process of getting my wisdom teeth removed. Staff was friendly and understanding of how nervous I was going into surgery. I would recommend all my friends and family to use Dr. Shirley.

I never leave reviews, but I had to for this one. Especially for anyone nervous about the dentist like me. I’m super anxious and just had all 4 wisdom teeth removed with IV sedation. Everything went perfectly! Dr. Shirley is amazing! Calm, reassuring, and made me feel totally at ease. His staff was awesome, kind and helpful. They explained everything and answered any questions that I had. I actually cancelled my first appointment a year ago because I was too nervous, wish I hadn’t! I’d 100% go back and I’m recommending him to everyone.

Meet the Doctors
Patients are cared for by Brett Shirley, DDS, MD, FACS, a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Dr. Shirley completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at UT Southwestern and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, earned his medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School, and completed additional fellowship training in maxillofacial oncology and reconstructive surgery at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. He has specialized training in dental implants and All-on-4 treatment, and he holds part time faculty positions at LSU Health in Shreveport and John Peter Smith Hospital, where he helps train oral and maxillofacial surgery residents.
