I am having a really great experience at James Island Dental Associates. Dr. Thomas is amazing—he’s super skilled, takes his time, and makes sure everything turns out just the way you want it. You can tell he really cares about doing a great job and pays attention to all the little details.
The whole staff is friendly, welcoming, and easy to work with. Everyone is so helpful and caring, and they really make you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. I’d definitely recommend James Island Dental Associates to anyone looking for great dental care and a team that truly puts their patients first.

I'm new to this practice, but they are definitely my go-to dentist of choice now! Dr. Weir is a highly skilled professional with a sense of humor that goes a long way when you're in a dentist's chair. He took the time to thoroughly go over an upcoming procedure that I was somewhat anxious about and laid my concerns to rest. The staff is courteous, the wait time is short and my new favorite hygienist, Rosemary, is one of the best that's ever been in my mouth. Oh, and they offer same-day crowns in case that service is needed. Five stars for JIDA!

A dental school friend of mine recommended these guys when I first moved to Charleston. That was 5 years ago and I've never even considered going anywhere else. The entire clinic is incredibly efficient. Dr. Weir is knowledgeable, personable, and truly listens to his patients' concerns. The hygienists are thorough and the front office staff could not be friendlier!

Oh my goodness, I have been with this practice for 20 years and I have recommended it to dozens of friends who are equally happy with Dr. Thomas and his colleagues. Dr. Thomas is thorough, caring, good communicator, great looking :) … he’s a wonderful dentist!!!
Today, Amy, a newer hygienist cleaned my teeth and she was super. Checked in with me to assess my comfort level throughout the process. A very pleasant half-hour. I hope to see Amy again for my next cleaning .

I had so much dental anxiety, then finally I worked up the courage to call them and schedule a consultation. From the beginning Martres was amazing, super knowledgeable, and walked me through the whole process. Brittany was an absolute delight calling her everyday to make payments because my bank wanted to make things difficult. Anna is probably the sweetest person I’ve ever met, and instantly made my anxiety feel at ease. Dr Thomas really hit the gold mind when hiring his staff because truly the entire staff is wonderful, and I can’t recommend this dental office enough!

Meet the Doctors

Dr. James H. Thomas III, DMD, a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from the College of Charleston in 1998 and his DMD from the Medical University of South Carolina, completing a general practice residency at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia; he joined the practice in 2003. Dr. John Beaty, DMD, who joined in 2025, earned his Bachelor of Science from Clemson University and his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the Dental College of Georgia, and sees patients at both the James Island and Johns Island offices.
