I’ve been a patient at Johnston Dental for several years now, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. From the moment you walk in, the entire team makes you feel genuinely welcome and at ease.
The staff is absolutely excellent—friendly, engaging, and incredibly attentive. They take the time to listen to your concerns, explain everything clearly, and make sure you’re comfortable every step of the way. Whether it’s a routine cleaning, a filling, or a more involved procedure, my visits are always quick, efficient, and completely pain-free. They really prioritize your comfort without rushing.
I’m especially impressed with their excellent follow-up care. They check in after appointments, make sure healing is going well, and are always available for any questions. It’s clear they truly care about long-term dental health, not just the immediate visit.
If you’re looking for a dental practice that combines professional expertise with a warm, caring atmosphere, Johnston Dental is the place. I trust them completely with my family’s smiles and will continue being a loyal patient. Highly recommend!

My first visit to Johnston dental care was Great. Dr. Matt seems to be very thorough and knowledgeable. He takes the time and listen. Never did it feel like he was in a rush to move on. His assistant Kayla is outstanding. Very professional, polite and friendly. I highly recommend Dr. Johnston and company.

This was my first visit to Johnston Dental Care, and it was truly fantastic. The moment I walked in, I was greeted right away by a friendly team member who made me feel welcome. I filled out my paperwork and was called back in less than five minutes.
The assistant walked me through everything we’d be doing and was incredibly kind, patient, and reassuring. Then Dr. Matt came in—such a gentle, soft‑spoken, genuinely caring provider. You can tell he truly looks out for his patients.
I’m so happy to have found Johnston Dental Care, and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone in Grants Pass looking for a great dental experience.

Dr Matt is working with me. I like that he is personable, easy going and explains any options and procedures in a manner that makes it very easy to understand. While he is very professional we also chat about life outside of dental care which makes me more relaxed. He offers solid advice for home dental care to help me maintain good dental hygiene. I had 2 extractions done and although I was anxious before the procedure it went quickly and other than the numbing shot was pain free. He is gentle and includes you so you know the steps he’s following. I was very surprised and happy that he called me at home the night of the procedure to check in and make sure I was not having any issues. I am healing well, slept well and feel great the following morning. I am very happy to have found Dr.Matt and his team! Each person on the staff is a pleasure to work with and I love seeing their smiles. Satisfied friendly staff transfers to patients and makes us comfortable and happy as well. Thank You for welcoming me to your team!!

I was nervous for my crown replacement, but Dr. Shane and his calm demeanor, thorough explanation of what he was going to do and while he was performing the work was very calming. The attentive care to resting my jaw and even spot on color matching he and his assistant choose was noticed. The appt went smoothly and even the crown they made needed no adjustments. Talk about precision work, thanks to the skilled hands and digital imaging, this matter is now behind me. His assistant displayed kindness, genuine care, expert knowledge and even sent me to the mssage chair while I waited for my crown to be made. I also love my hygeniest Keisha, she is the best!

Johnston Dental Care is a family dental practice at 1825 NW Hawthorne Avenue in Grants Pass, Oregon, serving patients from Grants Pass and the surrounding Southern Oregon communities. The office describes itself as committed to excellent dentistry in a friendly, gentle, and professional atmosphere, and it offers a wide range of general dentistry services, from routine examinations and cleanings to crowns, bridges, fillings, root canal therapy, dentures and partials, teeth whitening, treatment for jaw joint (TMJ) problems, oral cancer screening, and pediatric and family care. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
For patients missing one tooth, several teeth, or all of their teeth, the practice provides both implant placement and implant restoration in the same office. The team places Straumann implants and restores them with single implant crowns, replacements for multiple teeth, or full replacement of all teeth, and notes that implants can also be used to help stabilize dentures. Johnston Dental Care offers a complimentary implant consultation, and for patients with dental anxiety or extensive treatment needs, sedation options include nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and general sedation performed on site with the assistance of an anesthesiologist.
Meet the Doctors
The clinical team at Johnston Dental Care includes Dr. Matt Johnston, Dr. Shane Huish, and Dr. Jake Roper. Dr. Johnston earned his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from Temple University School of Dentistry in 2005 and began private practice in 2007. In 2012 he trained to surgically place implants through the Misch International Implant Institute and became a fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists; he is also a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and speaks Spanish fluently. Dr. Huish graduated from Utah State University and attended Dalhousie Dental School in Nova Scotia, where he received the CARDP Scholar award for the highest marks in restorative dentistry and prosthodontics. Dr. Roper also attended dental school at Dalhousie University and completed a residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry in Montana, gaining experience in placing dental implants, molar root canal therapy, clear aligner orthodontics, and complex full mouth rehabilitation.
