I have never written a Google review but I feel the need to share this information publicly to hopefully save others from a head(mouth) ache. Even though MDI Community Dental is more expensive than Twin Cities in Bangor, I chose to support a more local option because we need rural health care. I regret that decision. Two years ago I visited MDICD for a straight-forward cleaning and checkup. While there, they REALLY pressured me to get fillings in some teeth that weren't even bothering me. I caved and returned twice for these procedures. The dentist spent a total of about 90 seconds in the room before passing me off to a very inexperienced intern. Everyone has to go through a learning phase, but boy do I wish that this intern had had better oversight. She burned my gums so badly that they turned grey and fell off, exposing much more of my roots over the coming weeks, and making those teeth even more sensitive than they had been before. In the two years since, two of the four fillings I received have fallen off, again, making the issue much worse than it was before I was subjected to their "care." During my three separate visits to this establishment, I received less than 10 minutes of attention from the actual dentist, but forked over ~$1k, only to come out worse than when I went in. When I expressed my concerns, I was dismissed, and they did not offer to repair the damage that they did to my teeth. I'm sorry to say that I will not be returning and I would discourage others from doing so unless MDICD improves their quality of care (and preferably make it more affordable!).

As someone who has had poor dental experience at other offices, Community Dental Center takes the time to get to know you on a patient to provider level. Especially when it comes to the hygienists & receptionist. Those ladies are the kindest and most caring folks you’ll meet. Made the experience so much more comfortable!!

Let’s face it: going to the dentist is never a fun time. As someone who is usually very afraid of dentists Dr. Jane was very communicative and gentle. She is a very skilled dentist. I am so glad I found someone locally who does excellent work. Dr. Jane has a visiting dentist who is learning from her and he was also very nice and knowledgeable. Going to the dentist is often a stressful time — Dr. Jane made me feel comfortable and safe.

Right off the bat, I was greeted by the kindest receptionist. The hygienist’s are so sweet and helpful. Dr. Jane is professional yet humorous at the same time. I felt very comfortable while I was there for my cleaning and filling.

Literally the RUDEST dentist and hygenist. Office staff very helpful. Dentist and hygenist were incredibly rude and dismissive and disrespectful, didn’t answer any questions, cut my husband off multiple times, and left us with a ‘well tough I don’t know good luck’. Didnt even TRY to help.

About Mdi Hospital's Community Dental Center

MDI Hospital's Community Dental Center is a nonprofit dental clinic in Southwest Harbor, Maine, founded in 2014 as MDI Hospital's first dental clinic. The practice describes itself as a full-service oral health center offering care for patients of all ages, with a sliding fee scale and acceptance of major insurance plans including MaineCare. Services listed on the practice's website include dental exams, cleanings, extractions, restorations, fillings, root canals, crowns, bridges, removable prosthetics, and pediatric dentistry, along with same-day emergency exams for existing patients.

For patients weighing options like dental implants, the practice's stated mission is to make oral health care accessible and affordable, and to coordinate ongoing, personalized care through regular check-ups. The clinic emphasizes collaboration between dental and primary health providers, and its team follows up with patients to help them stay on track with treatment. Anyone considering a procedure like dental implants should call the office directly to discuss whether that specific service is offered, since the website text provided does not describe implant treatment in detail.
