Dr. Kay is a wonderful dentist (5 stars!) and I had nothing but excellent care from him during my time at Northern Shores. I needed a crown last year, and he explained fully why I needed it, but wasn't pushy, as it wasn't yet an emergency. I am very glad that I had it done, and he did a great job.
The first two hygienists I saw were also excellent. Jesse was the first, and I wish I remembered the name of the second. She was also amazing. Unfortunately, I was scheduled with Paige for my last visit. I had a very stressful time getting to the office from Traverse City through the construction. And yes, I consulted Google Maps (that was a question I was asked by multiple people in the office). Before I sat down in the chair, she asked how I was doing. I was honest, and told her I was having a stressful day, and why. She continued by lecturing me about how to follow detour signs, and implying that I had been a reckless and dangerous driver. I'm not sure how someone expects you to sit down in a dental chair for a cleaning after that. I did not - I turned around and went back to work.
I found that experience regretful on many levels. I really enjoyed being a patient at Northern Shores, but don't plan to return.

I had my first appointment as a new client at NSDG and they are superb. My hygenist Krissy was so down to earth and knowledgeable. Such a relief to have someone with excellent bedside manner working with you. She did a fantastic job. Dr. Noble was also so kind and thorough. I felt better about my health after working with this team. Thank you all.

Northern Shores Dental Group is top notch and I highly recommend them. I see Dr. Kay and dental hygienist Paige every 6 months for my regular dental appointments and am extremely happy with their professionalism, positive attitude, and expertise. Today, I went in for a crown and was attended to by Dr. Kay and Julie. I’m someone who experiences “dental anxiety” due to previous bad experiences at other facilities, especially when more invasive procedures, such as a crown, are on the agenda. I can’t speak highly enough about the experience I had today. Dr. Kay and Julie demonstrated the highest level of care and compassion and I experienced zero pain and low to zero anxiety. The temporary crown fits great and I’m experiencing no post-procedure pain, only very mild discomfort near the tooth they worked on. They were informative about everything they were doing while also providing light-hearted conversation. They played fun music at a reasonable volume during my visit which was delightful and kept the mood upbeat. (No Muzak in this office!) The entire staff is friendly, accommodating, professional, and highly skilled and the office setting is very welcoming and comfortable. I wouldn’t go anywhere else! If you’re looking for a dentist, look no further than the excellent team at Northern Shores!

What a terrific dental practice! I had an emergency issue with a crown that fell off, and they were able to fit me in for an appointment right away. Throughout my visit, both the dentist and the technician were constantly concerned for my comfort, they explained everything they were doing, and their work was efficient and excellent. The reception staff also were very welcoming and helpful. Special thanks to Emma and Dr. Ostrander and the scheduler who squeezed me in for an appointment!

I’ve received nothing but excellent care here. Excellent dentist’s, techs, hygienists, and office staff. Very caring, friendly, and understanding. I’m grateful to have such fantastic care for my teeth. I highly recommend this dental practice to everyone!

Dr. Nicholas Ostrander, DDS, is a graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and a former engineer at General Motors; he provides general and restorative dentistry and brings additional surgical skills to the practice, including extractions, bone grafting, and implants.
