I came in yesterday for my first appointment and was blown away by the kindness and professionalism of the front desk and medical staff alike. Paige, the dental assistant, was amazing! She took great care to lay out what they were doing and why and overall made me feel informed and at ease. Same for Dr. Ollinger. What a fantastic team :)

Dr. Van Beek was able to save my Mom from having to have surgery to remove the root from her gum after a tooth had broken off. He was very gentle, kind, knowledgeable and an amazing dentist!

Prompt, professional treatment from friendly staff in a super convenient location. Dr. O was on time, friendly, and superhuman in his ability to translate his expertise and extensive experience into a language a dumb guy like me could understand. Front desk was awesome at managing the record transfers and insurance setup so that I barely had to do anything as a new patient besides check a few boxes. Kids loved the place. Perfect for our family long term. Even the building has a boutique, private vibe that anyone and everyone will appreciate. 10/10.

I don’t know where to start and where to stop about how great this office is. I left a large practice in Cedar Rapids after 15 years of what I thought was the pinnacle of dentistry and after one visit, I don’t think I’m going to go anywhere else. Everyone I encountered is a true professional. Communication is prompt, accurate, and clearly delivered by all. They’re scheduled out beyond 6 months for a reason. Parking sucks, but hey, if you do anything in Iowa City you already expect that.

Northside Family Dental is a general dentistry practice in Iowa City, Iowa, located in a restored 1903 Victorian house a few blocks from downtown and the university campus. The practice has been serving the community since 1993 and offers a range of services, including dental implant restoration as well as All-on-4 and full-arch treatment for patients looking to replace missing teeth.
The office is set up with five clinical rooms across two floors, and the team describes an approach built around personalized, comfortable care in a relaxed, home-like setting. For patients considering dental implants, the practice combines this restorative work with its broader general dentistry services, such as checkups, cosmetic dentistry, and crowns and bridges, so ongoing dental health can be managed under one roof.
The practice is led by Dr. Chad Olinger and Dr. Van Beek. Dr. Olinger, a native Iowan and Creighton University graduate, took over ownership of the practice in December 2024 after previously practicing in Memphis, Tennessee and Seattle, Washington, and after serving four years of active duty with the United States Army. Dr. Van Beek is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, completed a post graduate fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry, and has practiced at Northside Family Dental since 2007. The practice was originally founded by Dr. Ann Connors in 1993, who sold it to Dr. Olinger as she moved into retirement.
