Just a shout out to Dr. Kyle McKinney for taking such great care of me today! We've done social media photos for Oakwood Dental Arts month after month, and we've seen first hand how great they are to their patients. I had to have a couple of fillings today and I gotta tell you guys... I didn't feel the novocaine needle at ALL. Not in the slightest. Was pretty incredible, all the other times at other places I've usually felt at least a little pinch, but it was completely painless and I was able to even laugh about stuff without any drugs or laughing gas. The whole thing was a breeze.
Dr. McKinney is so good about letting you know what's going on, what's next, and he, and his assistants are constantly checking to make sure you're doing okay. 👍
If you get nervous at the dentist, or if you've had bad experiences with dental work in the past, I encourage you to visit Oakwood Dental Arts, they're not only great about setting their patients at ease, but they also provide really great, and extremely thorough dental care. - Heather

Personable and very experienced staff. Dr. McKinney is awesome, he is patient oriented, provides excellent/expedient and comprehensive care. Observing his interaction with his staff, I thought it made for a very pleasant atmosphere. I had broken a tooth in half earlier this week. He was able to save the existing tooth by placing a permanent crown the very same day! I did not feel him inject the Novocain and I heard the sound of drilling but really did not feel much of anything, absolutely no pain or discomfort at all. All of his staff are wonderful! As an aside, I also received one dental implant last year and will be finishing a second implant this next week, so I know this experience to be the rule and not the exception. Best Dentist, best staff ever…

Dr. McKinney and his staff are the best. For the first time in my adult life I am not afraid to go to the dentist. Dr. McKinney is so gentle and caring, he wants you to be happy with your smile and will do whatever it takes to make that happen. Going to my previous dental hygienist was so painful, but Sheila is gentle, sweet and funny! Making the 1 ½ hour drive to Hickory is so worth it. Oakwood Dental Arts is the best!

Dr. McKinney is the best. Great staff and friendly people. Dr. McKinney is gentle, caring and does excellent work. He is focused on staying at the top of his field by learning new techniques and technologies and it shows in the experience that you receive as a patient. No one likes going to the dentist but my experiences with Dr. McKinney have helped alleviate my fear and anxiety and he has 100% earned my trust. I would recommend him and his staff to anyone.

I absolutely think this is the best dental office in Hickory North Carolina. I have been a patient with Dr McKinney since he came to this practice he and his staff are excellent. I have had crowns dental implant and fillings all with great success. I have been a patient there for many years ,Wendy is my dental hygienist and she is the best. I would highly recommend this practice for everyone.

About Oakwood Dental Arts
Oakwood Dental Arts is a family dental practice at 407 2nd Street Northwest in Hickory, North Carolina, serving the Hickory community and surrounding areas. The office has an unusually long history. The building was constructed in 1950 by M. G. Crouch Lumber Company as a dental office for Dr. G. Shuford Abernethy, was later passed to Dr. Eldridge, and is now home to Dr. McKinney, who describes his goal as continuing to provide quality and thoughtful dental care to the people of Hickory from this historic location.
The practice offers dental implants alongside a full range of general and restorative care, including dental cleanings and checkups, fillings and restorations, dental sealants, crowns, bridges, dentures, root canals, and tooth extractions. Cosmetic treatments are also available, including dental bonding, porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, and Invisalign. The practice offers an in-house membership option and is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a separate emergency and after-hours line for patients who need urgent care.
