Overall, the office is clean and staff are generally friendly, and Dr. Barefoot is professional. However, I did not have a very good experience on the day of my 14 year old daughter’s wisdom teeth removal. I felt very rushed throughout the whole process, and I wish I had been present with her while she was in “recovery” and still waking up. It was never explained or clear that this would be the case.
I want to be clear that I understand this probably can’t be done for everyone, but I would think with a child under the age of 16, an exception would be made.
When she was finally brought outside to the car, she was super groggy with tears streaming down her face. I was trying to attend to her and make sure she was ok (it was my first time seeing her after surgery!) and the staff was blurting out post-op instructions all while I was expressing concern for my daughter. I felt extremely rushed and didn’t get a warm or caring sense at all.
A few hours later I called the office to ask about what prescriptions were being called in - because I couldn’t remember what they told me earlier - and I got a very short, blunt response from the person who answered the phone. There was no asking about how my daughter was doing, or any tone of warmth or caring at all.
Disappointing experience.

Alexis and Dr Barefoot did an amazing job on my wisdom teeth removal! Everyone was super nice and made me feel really comfortable. I also appreciated the financial transparency they provided. I’ve been to different offices in the past that don’t have your best interests in mind and overcharge. I did not have that issue here at all. Definitely the best experience I’ve had with a dental office, I would highly recommend going here.

So glad we found Dr. Barefoot and his team. Doctor is great but what sets his practice apart from the rest is his staff. They are so helpful, hospitable, thorough, caring people. Both my husband and I are going here. Unfortunately, we both had a bad experience with our original referral and finding this practice was such a relief. Thank you for taking such good care of us!

Absolutely beautiful office, everything is very clean and organized and does not have a sterile feeling like typical oral surgery offices. The staff are so kind and friendly. Every question I had was answered and I felt supported and well taken care off. Dr. Barefoot was very understanding and professional and the surgery was so quick and painless. Can’t recommend this office and Dr. Barefoot enough.

Extremely professional..ladies were friendly, polite, professional, but engaging personally. It was a great experience every visit. I truly hated it when I was discharged. It’s not often that the staff is so friendly, funny and wonderful.

Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Specialists South Carolina is the private oral surgery practice of Dr. Matthew R. Meet the Doctors
Dr. Matthew R. Barefoot, DDS, MD, is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who holds both a dental degree and a medical degree. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, graduating magna cum laude, and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating summa cum laude and joining the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. He earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency and general surgery internship at the University of Alabama, including training in anesthesia. Dr. Barefoot is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Born in West Virginia and raised in South Carolina, he founded the practice in the Charleston area, originally as Barefoot Oral & Facial Surgery.
