We’ve had such a great experience here! The entire staff has always been incredibly friendly and welcoming. Dr. Overman is amazing with kids and takes a holistic, whole-body approach, which I really appreciate.
We originally started going for expansion for my daughter, and I love that they offer gentler expansion options that work with the body. Dr. Overman is thoughtful and attentive, always checking progress, making sure things are on track, and pivoting when needed. All options are explained clearly, and you never feel rushed or pushed.
The care here feels genuinely kind and compassionate. You can tell they truly care about their patients and go above and beyond to provide great service. 5 stars, 10/10 recommend.

We had such a great experience at Overman Family Dentistry! They are incredibly family friendly and were so patient with my kids, taking the time to explain what was happening and what to expect in a way that made them feel comfortable. They answered all of my questions thoroughly and were very transparent throughout the entire visit. The child play room was awesome and made a huge difference while I was in the exam room with one kid at a time. It made the whole appointment smooth and stress free. Highly recommend for families!

Today was my first visit to my new dentist office in ames. I felt really welcomed as soon as I walked in. Everyone was very friendly. My exam went great! The offices are very nice , I loved that was able listen to Spotify during my check up. I think I'm going to love coming to the Overman dentistry. I know it's only my first day , I'm going to love this place.

Overman Family Dentistry is amazing from start to finish. The front desk staff are so friendly and welcoming — they actually make you feel comfortable walking into a dentist’s office (which is saying a lot!). Everyone there is super kind, professional, and genuinely cares about their patients.
Dr. Overman is awesome — he takes his time to explain things, makes sure you’re comfortable, and you can tell he really knows his stuff. He’s got such a calm, reassuring way about him that instantly puts you at ease.
The hygienists and assistants are fantastic too — gentle, thorough, and just great people all around (as well as musical knowledge). The whole place has such a positive, family feel to it.
I honestly can’t say enough good things about this office. If you’re looking for a dentist who truly cares and a staff that makes you feel like family, Overman Family Dentistry is the one!

We have had the BEST experience at Overman Family Dentistry for our kid's orthodontic needs! Dr. Overman is incredibly knowledgeable and good at explaining what is going on. We love that he takes a holistic approach, and appreciate how we are presented with multiple options for care after a through assessment. Thank you for taking great care of our family!

About Overman Family Dentistry
Overman Family Dentistry is a relationship-based general dental practice located at 1606 Golden Aspen Drive, Suite 110 in Ames, Iowa. The office opened in 2010 and describes its approach as comprehensive, compassionate, and convenient, looking at the whole person rather than just teeth. The practice offers comprehensive general dentistry including oral exams, gentle cleanings, periodontal care, pediatric care, crowns, bridges, and dentures. Its cosmetic dentistry services include dental implants, tooth whitening, veneers, tissue and bone grafting, dentures, and Invisalign, so patients missing teeth can discuss implant, bridge, or denture options with the same team that handles their routine care.
Beyond restorative and cosmetic work, the practice provides myofunctional orthodontics, which looks for the underlying cause of crooked teeth, along with myofunctional therapy for concerns such as tongue ties, mouth breathing, narrow palates, and thumb sucking. It also treats temporomandibular disorder (jaw joint problems such as clenching, grinding, and chronic headaches) and related sleep concerns. Comprehensive exams include an oral cancer screening and a look at the jaw joint, airway, bite, gums, and jawbone. The team gives back to the Ames community with free dental care for veterans each Veterans Day and an annual Free Dentistry Day. Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8am to 5pm and Friday from 8am to 1pm.
Meet the Doctors
The practice is led by Dr. Jacob Overman, DDS, who earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2007 and opened Overman Family Dentistry in 2010 after working in private practice in Boone, Iowa, and at the Story County Dental Clinic. He is joined by Dr. Chaz Chambers, DDS, a University of Northern Iowa graduate who completed his dental degree at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2023 and focuses on comfortable, patient-centered care. The team also includes Kelsey, a myofunctional therapist who has been with the practice since 2014.
