We are deeply disappointed with our experience at Skagit Dental Design and feel compelled to share this.
Since 2024, my husband has undergone extensive dental work at this office. Because we knew the treatment would be costly, we purchased a secondary dental insurance plan specifically to help reduce our out-of-pocket expenses. At no point were we informed that this secondary insurance was out of network. Treatment continued, insurance was billed, and we were repeatedly sent bills for thousands of dollars.
I contacted the office multiple times over the past year asking why our balances were so high. Not once did anyone clearly explain that the reason was being out of network. There was a complete lack of transparency and no effort to ensure we understood the financial impact of continuing treatment there. A straightforward, honest conversation could have prevented significant financial strain on our family.
When we recently switched to another dental office that was immediately upfront about network limitations, I reached out to Skagit Dental Design to express our concerns. The response I received was rude and dismissive. I was told they did not want to discuss it and did not want to “do anything nice” for us. That response confirmed everything we had been feeling.
It is also difficult not to feel that profit is prioritized over patient care. The dentist either owns or works at another office in the Seattle area, and during visits he is often performing cleanings himself, suggesting possible staffing limitations. At my most recent cleaning, the water from the dental equipment was leaking and dripping all over me throughout the procedure — something that should not occur in a properly maintained office.
We are a military, single-income family with young children. We trusted this practice and expected honesty and integrity. Instead, we feel misled and financially burdened.
I would highly recommend choosing one of the many other dental offices in the area that are kind, honest, upfront, and operate with integrity.

You are NOT in network with our secondary insurance, and that was never told to us. You continue to make appointments, do the work, bill the insurance that we had that wasn't in network with your office, and bill me for everything out of pocket. You never were honest, that's all the problem.

I am a very nervous dental person (i dislike my teeth worker on).
I felt comfortable at ease. What was planned was explained in detail. I'm happy. They worked with my insurance company (Humana).
My out of pocket is affordable.
He is going to SAVE my teeth that are broken. And with a parchel on my bottoms will be finished. And top dentures too.
Thank you very much.

Dr. Buttar and his dental assistant Alexis were amazing! They were super professional, kind, and made the unpleasant experience of getting needles stuck in your mouth a whole lot easier! They even provide warmed blankets, pillows, and stress balls which is amazing. They were also extremely knowladgable in their practice, and them actually explaining WHY I needed to flose is going to make me do it more

I am really pleased to have found a local dentist who respects and considers the importance of dental health and treatment in relation to my overall health. Dr Buttar takes time to explain the process and allow me to decide what and when I can afford to proceed. Marie works well with the insurance and communicates nicely as well.

I have always had anxiety with dentists, and today I found a dentist that extinguished all the worries I've had in the past. Wow! Soft spoken and polite, gentle and thourough. I havent ever had dentist trauma, nothing bad has ever happened to me. But I'm on the autism spectrum and i have certain aversions to things like the rain jacket that dentists often use to isolate a tooth for work. I expressed my discomfort with this and he replied that they dont even use those because people have complained in the past. This made me feel like I can forget about my fears and just worry about the health of my mouth. I am not ever going to another dentist.
On top of all this, he used a virating tool to distract my nerve endings while inserting the numbing needle. It was the most Zen shot in the gums I have ever experienced. I could literally just relax.
100% recommend this practice!
