I had an outstanding experience at South Mississippi Oral Surgery & Implant Center in Gulfport, Mississippi.
For several months, I’ve had popping in my jaw — noticeable enough that my girlfriend could hear it from three to four feet away while I was eating. Since I live along the Gulf Coast, I wanted a reputable oral surgeon in the Gulfport / Biloxi area to evaluate it.
The team performed detailed imaging and confirmed that I do not have arthritis in my jaw joint, which was a major relief. Dr. Spencer Remley took the time to thoroughly explain how the TMJ works, including how the cartilage functions (similar to a meniscus in the knee), what causes the popping sound, and what treatment options are available. He discussed bite guards and joint wash procedures, but in my case, none were necessary.
My jaw still pops, but I am completely pain-free and did not require any invasive treatment.
The facility is modern and high-tech, and the technology they use makes a big difference. Seeing multiple angles of my jaw and skull displayed clearly on a large screen while everything was explained made the consultation both informative and reassuring. The staff was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable from start to finish.
If you’re in Gulfport, Biloxi, or anywhere along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and need evaluation for TMJ concerns, jaw pain, or oral surgery consultation, I highly recommend this practice.

I had a tooth that needed to be extracted and happened to call the best place I've dealt with on the coast in the 8yrs I've been down here. 100% the most welcoming and professional I've experienced down here. There are absolutely different levels of quality in dental services and they are the ones that set the bar. If it were an option they'd be the only ones to touch my teeth from now on. Highly recommend, you won't regret the decision.

I really appreciate how the staff at the front desk greeted me. The process to get my appointment set up was very smooth. The nurse who took me to the xray and evaluation room was very kind and professional. I met with Dr Akers and he was thorough and patient with my questions answering and explaining everything of how the process would go. I am grateful and thankful that I chose South MS Oral Surgery and Implants.

This office is a great place to have work done at. Dr. Akers personally gave my husband a Gatorade today because he was so concern about my husband being dehydrated and causing some other issues and we both thought that was the nicest thing any doctor's office has ever done for us. We will always come back to this office for any extractions we will need in the future. All the staff at this office are awesome individuals!! GREAT JOB TODAY!! :) :)

I was very pleased with my experience here. The front desk person was nice and accommodating. The nurse was kind and helpful. The doctor, Dr. Akers (sp) was awesome! My husband and I were really impressed with his knowledge and rapport. I definitely recommend this place and its doctor.

Dr. York earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Tennessee, is board-certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and established his oral surgery practice in Gulfport in 1970. Dr. Remley earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry, completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and provides treatment across all areas of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including wisdom teeth removal, bone grafting, dental implants, facial trauma, and anesthesia and IV sedation.
