He earned his bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio before attending the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine. He then completed a residency in prosthodontics at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham. His father, Dr. Wayne Simmons, founded the practice's predecessor, E. Wayne Simmons D.M.D. Prosthodontist PC.
