I had an implant with the Oral and Facial Surgery Dept and the whole process has been absolutely amazing! Very reasonable financial obligation and excellent care! Rachel, the coordinator is the sweetest! She is very knowledgeable, professional and so easy to work with. The Drs and dental assistants that worked with me were amazing! Always explained everything and had a great manner to make you feel at ease. It is a teaching university. Being a former career educator, I loved watching the learning take place as I was being taken care of. I would highly recommend!

The nicest, kindest doctors teaching and the kindest nicest dentist that are almost graduated. They are the best school I used to work with the nurse in the operating room at St. Mary’s Hospital and she told me that she didn’t use her husband‘s insurance and she went to the dental school and I had never been there and now I know why they are amazing. Adding to previous review. Thank you. I am BEYOND Grateful for my Dentist and all staff. Today I took pictures of the entrance. ☀️

This is by far the best dental care I have ever received! Ade Choubou and his assistant Mary, extracted 2 wisdom teeth in less than 5 minutes with very little bleeding, no pain, and no swelling! They were very nice and explained everything to me beforehand. I've had problems with dentists in the past and never knew dentists could be this great! If I ever need dental care again, I will only go here. I recommend this place to anyone looking for great dental care and I would definitely ask for Ade Choubou and Mary because they were awesome! Could not give enough stars or say enough about them or this place! Definitely 20 out of 10!! Go here! You won't regret it!

DON’T GO HERE!
I was referred to VCU dental by my dentist. I went there to have all remaining teeth (9) removed and to have the procedure with laughing gas to help with pain. Mind you, I live 1 hour and 45 minutes away from there. When I got there I was told that the machine for laughing gas was not working and I could come back tomorrow. I knew I should’ve cancelled, but was in pain.
Imagine the shots to the mouth I needed for 9 teeth. The Doctor was nice but not gentle. It feels (not felt) like he shot me on my jaw bone. I asked him to start with the easy teeth first (already loose). He said ok, but didn’t do it. Once he began to pull the teeth, I could feel it. He did stop shoot me with Novocain again and began pulling. The last two teeth, (not already loose) I felt. I told him no that hurts. He said hold on and continued to pull. Now I’m literally screaming………..he yells, it’s out. Then proceeded to do the same with the last tooth. I have never screamed in an office/hospital before, and I have four children. I was actually cussing in the office.
He also told me he would give me low grade codeine pills for pain. He lied again, he sent me home with acetaminophen (Tylenol) 500 mg what you can get at the store and ibuprofen 600mg. The strange thing was my pain was from the teeth removed but from the injections the most ( jaw shot) bottom of gums.
This was the worst and traumatizing experience of my life.
The good news is NO MORE TEETH!!!
I wouldn’t send my dog there.

The BEST. Brandy was my assigned dentist and she was exceptionally helpful. Everyone working there are always upbeat and incredibly polite. The school is a godsend. Only issue is trying to navigate the phone menu and hardly anyone has time to take calls on the phone. Other than that everything is smooth sailing and makes dentist visits a joy. No lie.

About Vcu Dental Care
VCU Dental Care is the patient care arm of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, located at 520 North 12th Street on the medical campus in downtown Richmond, Virginia. It offers comprehensive and affordable oral health care to Virginians of all ages, from routine cleanings, fillings, crowns, bridges and dentures to dental implants, gum disease treatment, root canals, orthodontics and oral and facial surgery. Patients can be seen in the student clinic, where third and fourth year dental students provide care under the close supervision of experienced faculty, in specialty clinics staffed by dentists receiving advanced training alongside their faculty mentors, or in the Faculty Practice, which is staffed by full time faculty members of the dental school.
For patients considering dental implants, this setting offers a distinctive advantage. Implant care often involves several specialties, and VCU brings general dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics and oral and facial surgery together under one roof, which the school notes is a scope of care no other provider in the region offers in a single location. Becoming a patient starts with a screening visit that includes a dental exam and a panoramic X-ray, and appointments can be scheduled by calling (804) 828-9190. Because it is a teaching institution, care in the student and resident clinics is typically offered at lower cost than private practice, while the Faculty Practice provides a more traditional experience with full time faculty dentists.
About the Care Team
Care at VCU Dental Care is provided by a large team rather than a single fixed dentist. Depending on the clinic you choose, you may be treated by third and fourth year dental students working under the close supervision of experienced faculty, by dentists completing advanced specialty training alongside their faculty mentors, or by full time faculty dentists in the Faculty Practice. The team covers the full range of oral health needs, including general dentistry, gum disease treatment, dental implants, root canals, orthodontics, dentures and oral and facial surgery. Every patient begins with a screening visit so the team can match you with the clinic and providers best suited to your needs.
